Why are qualified people still unemployed?

Yesterday I was at the year-end celebration of Capacity, an organization helping highly skilled job seekers with migrant backgrounds find work in the Swiss market.

Earlier this year, I had the privilege of being a panel speaker at two of their workshops (throwback pic to Adliswil event) and hosting a speed coaching session on EY Switzerland day with 20+ Capacity alumni and EY colleagues motivated to give back. Their growth was visible 💪

This is what struck me most: The Swiss job market is incredibly tough. There is this huge disparity between skilled talent available in the country and the increasing war for the best people. It sounds contradictory, but it's real.

But here's the thing—Capacity is doing something brilliant.

They're not just helping people update their CVs or practice interview skills. They're training them on the skills that actually matter for the future:

↳ Resilience to keep applying when rejection feels overwhelming 

↳ Adaptability to learn the nuances of the Swiss job market 

↳ Creativity to translate their incredible prior experiences into local context

And by the way, even Sam Altman—the father of ChatGPT—just confirmed this again in a recent podcast: resilience, creativity, and adaptability are THE skills we need in the AI era.

The data shows this approach works. When we focus on these human skills alongside technical expertise, we start closing that talent gap.

But it only works when we all work together—organizations like Capacity, companies willing to look beyond traditional hiring patterns, and people who are ready to invest in these foundational skills.
