I recently attended a lecture at IMD by Michael Watkins, the author of the bestseller "The First 90 Days."
He really knows his stuff when it comes to helping people get into a new role.
He got me thinking about one of my own executive coaching clients who's about to step into a brand new position.
It can be tough to take on a new role, kind of like landing on a new planet.
→ You don't know the landscape, the people, or the unspoken rules.
→ Many leaders, including myself, have a tendency to jump in headfirst and try to do everything at once 🤓
→ And we underestimate the importance of building relationships with the new team and colleagues.
And let's be honest, starting something new often comes with a fear of judgment.
Will I measure up? Will people like me?
These are all very real concerns that can hold us back.
I realized - and Michael W. says so too - of the most powerful things new leaders can do is approach their role with curiosity and a willingness to learn.
So simple, so magical.
The 90-day framework really resonated with me, and I'm excited to use these insights. After all, new beginnings are a chance for growth and exciting new possibilities!
