AGI by 2030: What Will You Do Before It Decides for You

I have been saying it for a while. The founder of Google DeepMind just made the same case.
Do not become a passive recipient of technology. Take control of it before it takes control of you.
Demis Hassabis put it plainly. Hold on to your sense of meaning. Decide what you focus your life on. Do not let AI make that choice for you.
And if you have been at one of my keynotes, you have heard my words: What will AI do? That matters far less than what will YOU do.
Here is why this is urgent. AGI is coming. Artificial general intelligence. AI that thinks across almost anything at human level, not just one narrow task. Hassabis puts it around 2030, give or take a year. That is not far. My son will just turn 18.
And it does not stop there. The next step is artificial superintelligence. AI that can outperform whole teams of experts and entire organisations. A new paper from his team maps the possible routes to get there.
This does not arrive as one big moment. No single firework. It comes as a series of shifts, one after another, already starting. The researchers name where it lands: our work, our schools, our science, our economy.
This is not something to wait out.
The people who do well will be the ones who take control of their own part now, instead of letting the technology decide it for them.
So I will ask you what I ask myself every week. What is the one thing you will take control of, before 2030 does it for you?
The real deadline is not 2030, it is the decision you make before it
Hassabis frames AGI as a horizon point, but the more useful frame for anyone reading this is not the date, it is the decision gap between now and then. Whatever 2030 actually brings, the people who are ready for it will not be the ones who guessed the timeline correctly. They will be the ones who already decided, well before the deadline, which parts of their work, their thinking, and their judgement they were not willing to hand over.
This is the same idea at the centre of my C-H-A-N-G-E framework: taking control of your own destiny rather than waiting for an organisation, a government, or a piece of technology to hand you a plan.

You do not need to resolve the entire AGI question today. You need one honest answer to a smaller question: what is the one thing, in your work or your life, that you refuse to let AI or anyone else decide for you?
