Why Visibility Is a Career Strategy, Not Arrogance

10 giu 2026

I was taught in 1990s Hungary that good work speaks for itself.

It does not.

Yesterday I delivered a 90-minute AI-powered personal branding masterclass for the Alpiq leaders. Over 300 registrations, colleagues joining from Switzerland, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy and beyond.

One message drove the whole session.

The gap between high performers and the next promotion is rarely a competence gap. The work is there. The hours are there.

What is missing is visibility. You cannot be promoted, sponsored, or recommended by people who do not see you. Visibility is not arrogance. It is a career strategy.

The good news: you do not have to make this a second full-time job. AI can do a lot of the heavy lifting. But only you can do the thinking.

Thank you Isabel Rebling and Selin Kazan for inviting me to speak into your skill-building workshop series and trusting me and The Change Republic with this room.

And thank you to every participant who showed, shared insights and asked the sharp questions, and already messaged me about what they are trying this week.

When did you last make your work visible to the people who need to see it?

Why visibility decides careers, not just competence

In coaching senior professionals through promotion and personal brand, the same pattern shows up again and again. The people who get promoted are not always the most capable in the room. They are the ones whose work the decision makers can actually see and describe.

Three things separate visible leaders from invisible high performers.

→ They make their work legible. Quietly delivering is not the same as being known for delivering. The people who decide your next role form their opinion from what they see and hear, not from a private record of effort.

→ They treat visibility as a practice, not a personality trait. You do not have to become loud. You have to become consistent. A steady, specific account of what you are working on is enough.

→ They let AI carry the heavy lifting, not the thinking. AI can help you draft, structure and stay consistent. It cannot decide what you stand for or which work is worth showing. That part stays yours.

Visibility is not about self-promotion for its own sake. It is about making sure the people who can sponsor, promote or recommend you actually know what you do. For a lot of high performers, especially those taught that good work speaks for itself, that is the missing piece.
