AI can do a lot. But it cannot get you promoted.
There are two sides to the same shift. Where AI cannot help you, and where it absolutely can.
Where AI cannot help: your promotion. Almost none of what actually moves a promotion decision is something AI can do for you. The relationships, the trust, the visible ownership of hard calls. That is yours to build.
Where AI absolutely can help: the surface work. Most of us pay for our meetings twice, once to sit in them and again to chase what was agreed. That is exactly where AI earns its place.
The pattern I keep seeing: use AI for the surface work, and show up fully in the rooms that actually decide things.

Use AI for the surface, show up for what decides
Promotion decisions are not made by the work alone. They are made by people, in rooms, based on what they have seen you own and how much they trust you with more. None of that can be delegated to a tool.
What can be delegated is the surface work that crowds those rooms out of your week. Meeting prep, summaries, follow-up, the admin that makes you feel busy without making you visible. Knowing who actually decides your promotion is the start; freeing your time to be present with those people is the follow-through.
So the move is simple to say and hard to do. Hand the surface work to AI. Then spend the time you reclaim in the conversations that decide things, fully present, clearly owning your part.
