AI predicted the next Pope.
AI predicted the next Pope.
And this wasn't just a wild guess.
I promised myself to try a new prompt every week, even if just for fun things outside my job. The world is getting ready to choose its most famous spiritual leader soon behind the St. Peter's Square in the Vatican. And, it got me thinking: could AI guess who it would be?
But sometimes, using AI is tricky right from the start. Everyone says, you need to have a good prompt if you want to get a good answer. But how do you even ask it the right question? You don't know what you don't know!
Even if you try, the answers can be confusing or just not what you wanted. Feeling stuck, like you don't know how to talk to the AI the right way, happens a lot.
Then I had an idea. Why not ask the AI to help me ask 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 questions? It's like asking the chef for the recipe! Use the AI's own smarts.
So I asked ChatGPT to write the perfect question for me considering articles from reputable sources, candidates' views on big topics for the church, then build a statistical model and stress test it.
(If you wonder, I wouldn't know how to do it by myself.)
I got a detailed prompt with lots of context, ready to test - you will find it in the comments. Then, I fed it into some GPT models. I spent 8 minutes actively + some more waiting.
The result? Parolin, an Italian candidate will be the new Pope ⛪
→ ChatGPT o3, ChatGPT Research, DeepSeek and Gemini Deep Research betting on Parolin
→ Perplexity Pro, Perplexity Research and Claude 3.7 Sonnet predicting Tagle
Now, we just have to wait and see. Will the white smoke come out to show Cardinal Parolin is the new Pope? Whether the AI is right or not, the main thing I learned was a better way to talk to AI to get smarter answers.
How do you ask a better question?
