𝙃𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙮 𝟳𝟯𝟰𝙩𝙝 𝙗𝙞𝙧𝙩𝙝𝙙𝙖𝙮 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝘁𝘇𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱.

𝙃𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙮 𝟳𝟯𝟰𝙩𝙝 𝙗𝙞𝙧𝙩𝙝𝙙𝙖𝙮 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝘁𝘇𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱. 𝟭𝟴 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗜 𝘁𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗺𝘆𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝘀 "𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴."

In 2007, I made what I thought was a temporary move to Switzerland. "Just a few years," I told myself. "Then I'll go back home."

Funny how the biggest changes start with small decisions.

That "temporary" move became the foundation for everything I am today. My career, my family, my entire life shifted because I stayed open instead of sticking to my original plan.

Here's what I learned:

↳ 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗳𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁. I spent my first year trying to rebuild my old life in a new place. But I only started feeling home, when I got to learn the Swiss ways of working and thinking.

↳ 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄. Switzerland didn't just welcome my skills - it pushed me to develop new ones. Being the outsider helps you spot opportunities you might otherwise miss.

↳ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝘁 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁. What started as a career move became a life change. Sometimes you need to take the first step before you can see the bigger picture.

Today, it's the birthday of my chosen home. Switzerland celebrates 734 years of choosing collaboration over isolation. I had the same experience in my 18 years here: growth happens when we leave our comfort zones.
